“I believe that our identities are experiential, not chosen. Faith is a practice, and love is action.”
- Mahdia Lynn
Faith and spirituality have been a respite for those struggling for much of history. However, few faith spaces have been inherently open and affirming to those in the Trans+ community. Below we have listed religious and spiritual communities that are putting the work in to help mend that historical wound and provide as much support as any other Trans+ affirming community organization.

Mishkan is a spiritual Jewish community in Chicago reclaiming Judaism’s inspiration and transformative essence.
Not bound by a particular location like a traditional synagogue, they create radically inclusive spaces for Jewish spiritual practice and community.
They are on a mission to engage, educate, and empower people across the spectrum of identity, background, age, and belief.
Affiliation:
Mishkan is a post-denominational, independent community. The Rabbi and founder, Rabbi Lizzi Heydemann, was ordained within the Conservative movement. So, much of their liturgy is reflective of that background, while embodying a playful and flexible spirit that many associate with more liberal forms of Judaism and a spirituality that takes its ecstatic and meditative ethos from Chasidism. They use the independent siddur, Eit Ratzon.
