The resources on this list include social services, shelters, and community centers that will culturally and appropriately serve the needs of Transgender and Gender Nonconforming people experiencing homelessness or struggles with housing. These resources will be affirming to the gender identities of those they serve and they will help to address the many co-occurring issues facing their patrons.

Since 1983, HOW has been a leader in offering prevention strategies; expanded, affordable, supportive housing; and individualized supportive services to help thousands of individuals reclaim their lives.
HOW receives all referrals for their affordable and supportive housing programs from Chicago’s Coordinated Entry System (CES) and additional partners.
They do not maintain a separate wait list for these programs and do not accept direct referrals.

Description:

Brave Space Alliance’s Housing pillar is intended to both meet an immediate need for housing and end cycles of living unhoused for transgender people in Chicago. Beyond offering temporary residential support for up to 18 months in the Jasmine Alexander Housing Building, this initiative is designed to provide wrap-around support to help community members take their next Brave steps towards stability. This includes workforce development and financial literacy workshops, as well as resume building and interview preparation.
The Jasmine Alexander Housing Building (JAHB) supports trans and LGBQ+ individuals experiencing homelessness and/or housing instability in a six to eighteen-month housing readiness initiative. JAHB is client-centered, intending to break homelessness and/or housing instability cycles. Through empowerment initiatives, JAHB residents will receive three prominent resources: Workforce Development, Financial Literacy, and Dignity. An empowerment and dignified initiative built for the community by the community provides educational tools in real-time to strengthen the likelihood of maintaining sustainable housing. With support from Case Management, Housing Monitors, and the Senior Housing Manager, JAHB will intentionally break the cycles of homelessness and/or housing instability.
